Greetings fellow community members,
It is with a heavy heart that I write to let you know that Mount Airy Nexus will be sun-setting as a company. With the generous support of several tenants and members who continue to pay for their memberships even though they weren't utilizing the space nearly as much during the pandemic, as well as the flexibility of our landlord, we have been able to stay above water for many months into the Covid19 crisis.
This ending is particularly disappointing because before the pandemic we were very much on track to come rocketing up out of our start-up phase and achieve financial sustainability and additional growth. But of course there have been many other losses, and much more tragic ones, from the pandemic. And we move on from this chapter in both gratitude and grief.
Perhaps the saddest part of this transition is moving on from our still new relationship with Tanya Morris and Doriana Diaz, the outgoing Community Managers/Developers. I'm very grateful to them both for stepping into this challenging role in such an uncertain time. Given the ways we are each working to change the world for the better, I’m confident that our paths will cross again before long, and I look forward to some form of future team-up. I hope you’ll all follow their important work, including but not limited to Tanya’s leadership with respect to supporting black female entrepreneurs, and Doriana’s work creating and curating art around gender and racial issues.
Our landlords, Scott and G.C. Seibert of Bancroft Green, will be continuing the office operations at 520 Carpenter Lane under the new name of Mt. Airy Axis. We hope that those of you who are still members will continue to be so under their management. More details will follow soon, but we will be setting it up to be as seamless a transition as possible, as we hand-off operations of the coworking space, and its existing relationships. Please be on the look-out for an email or phone call from them within the next week. In the meantime, please continue to use the space. If you have already automatically paid November’s rent to Nexus, it will be forwarded to the Mt. Airy Axis. If you have not, please hold off on doing so until you hear from Scott or G.C. on where and how to make payments.
As many of you know Mount Airy Nexus has been a spinoff of the nonprofit Sustainability Nexus, and sister to the Center City coworking space, CityCoho - Philly’s Nexus. Both of these entities will continue operating, and even offering new programs and network circles in the coming year. We will continue to work with Bancroft Green via their coworking business at 520 Carpenter Lane, and will continue to consider all of you members of the overall Nexus community and ecosystem. Please keep in touch, and keep an eye out for forthcoming nonprofit programs.
This is a huge week, and the world continues to be incredibly tumultuous and challenging in a variety of ways. We wish you the best in facing all of that, and hope to see you out there again. Stay strong, and please keep doing the amazing work in the world that you all are - it gives me and many others hope.
Sincerely,
Max Zahniser
